Set Yourself Up For Success in 2015!!!

Here we are once again, embarking on a new year that will be full of new opportunities, new relationships, new hopes, and new aspirations. The question to ponder is, “What makes this year different from the last?” There is always so much talk about new year’s resolutions and about finally being committed to reaching the goals that, for so long have been on our to-do lists. But I want to challenge you to adopt a new perspective. Goals represent those hopes, dreams, and aspirations that we long for. Most people I have talked to have a very clear picture in their minds about what they want and even how to get there, but they are not taking the action necessary to get there! The truth is that what truly holds most of us back lies in one of three areas: our identy, our beliefs, or our actions (or lack thereof). This is so easy to identify in others, but not so much in ourselves. Have you ever thought, “Wow, she deserves so much more than that!”, or “I’m can’t believe he puts up with that!” Our inner struggle with our identies and our beliefs are often invisible to us, but they are our biggest blocks to attaining our goals and they determine which actions we take and which ones we avoid. I want to challenge you to begin to notice what you are telling yourself about your identity and your beliefs. Are you identifying with being too young or too old? Are you too tall or too short? Are you of the wrong background? Do you believe that you...

Have You Found Your Pot of Gold?

Just the other day I was listening to Kim George speak on With Gratitude & Grace’s Mindful Monday show on BlogTalk Radio. She read her Freedom Memorandum, which spoke to my soul divinely and profoundly. It reminded me of one summer that I spent with my mom in California as a child. One day that summer, we were driving down a windy, hilly road through a beautiful mountain range. We were listening to music that seemed to be synchronized with each turn, and we were in awe of the constant displays of beauty that awaited around each bend. As we continued on our path, there was a brief rain, followed by the return of the sun and what seemed to be one of the most vibrant and amazing rainbows I have ever seen! I was instantly convinced that we were in the perfect spot to discover the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, as the end of the rainbow appeared to be just around the next bend! I waited in anticipation as we rounded the bend, expecting to see the beautiful treasure awaiting, but to no avail. “It must be around the next one,” I thought; however I was disappointed over and over again as we rounded each bend. Are you chasing that pot of gold in your life and feeling repeatedly disappointed as you come around each bend? I found my search for the pot of gold to be a perfect metaphor for life and also one of life’s great lessons: appreciate the beauty around you, but more importantly within you, and realize that you...

Will You Embrace the Shift?

Today is Monday again, one of my favorite days of the week. While every day is special, Mondays to me represent the chance for a fresh, new beginning and new opportunities. As an entrepreneur, I try to control for as many variables as possible, planning my days and weeks out meticulously. However, sometimes there are messages from the universe that I have no way of accounting for that can end up shifting my plans completely. I began noticing an incredible shift in December 2011 which seems to be accelerating more rapidly as the time passes. Last week ended up being completely different from I had expected and there were many incredible turns of events. As I reflect on these events, I realize that there is no way that I could have ever predicted what actually occurred, but through faith and preparation, I was ready for the changes and I can’t help but to see the huge blessings that are manifesting as a result. While I had accounted for and planned for some of the events that occurred last week, I did not plan for them to happen so quickly! Sometimes we are waiting for the right moment to take that leap of faith, but life has its own way of propelling you in the direction that you are meant to go. Have you noticed the shift this year? There is an incredible energy in the air of “out with the old, and in with the new”. For some, this is an exhilarating time of new beginnings and new experiences. For others, it is extremely frightening and anxiety provoking as...

Happy Independence Life!

Today we will be celebrating Independence Day here in the United States. The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite holidays because it truly commemorates the idea of freedom and pride in an incredible accomplishment. It is a happy holiday and it warms my heart to think of spending time with my family at the festival, swimming, grilling a delicious meal, and then topping it all off with a beautiful display of fireworks. What if we all were to have our own “independence day” to celebrate – as in independence from  living someone else’s ideas and expectations for your life? I vividly remember some of the turning points in my life when I experienced my own independence:  establishing my first home on my own as a young adult, graduating from college, moving to new states, buying my first house, and quitting my j-o-b to become a full-time entrepreneur, to name a few. Gaining independence is not separating yourself from your loved ones or catching “superwoman/superman syndrome” and thinking you can do it all by yourself. In fact, the meaning of independence is: The state or quality of being independent;  freedom from dependence;  exemption from reliance on, or control by others;  self-subsistence or maintenance;  direction of one’s own affairs without interference. Sufficient means for a comfortable livelihood. Gaining independence requires knowledge, experience, and ability, ingenuity, assertiveness, and a firm understanding that independence is not selfishness, isolation, or arrogance. What a beautiful feeling it is when you realize that you can decide to design your life and step into your purpose! When will you celebrate your independence...

Mom, Entrepreneur, or Mom-preneur?

Just the other day I was reading a heated discussion on Ali Brown’s fan page, and subsequently her blog post about whether or not moms who work at home should get help with childcare. What a heated discussion with a plethora of thoughts and ideas! This is one of those subjects that has been up for debate for years, especially since women’s roles have continued to evolve. In fact, a recently published article in Entrepreneur Magazine outlines some amazing statistics, including the fact that between 1997 and 2011, the number of women-owned firms increased by 50 percent, a rate one and a half times the national average. With those kind of statistics, it is no wonder that more and more mom-preneurs are looking for that balance between their home and business lives. This is huge and it is creating an incredible shift in how we as women relate to society, our families, our communities, our money, and even to ourselves! Ladies, we have the opportunity to set the stage for future generations! Women are re-writing the traditional rules. We are paying more attention to developing ourselves as women so that we can be strong business owners, wives, and mothers. We are not conforming to the traditional, corporate rules of business, and instead, we are prioritizing what matters most and then harmmonizing our personal lives with our business identities. We are truly designing our lives, as opposed to falling into previously dictated roles and expectations. Earlier this week, I met a young, single lady who just recently graduated from college and is at the beginning of her career. When we...

Did You Just Assume?

“When you assume, you make an ass out of u and me.” I was having a conversation with a close friend this week. He was telling me about having missed the deadline to pay a traffic ticket. When I asked him if he had called to see if there was some type of payment arrangement that could be made, he responded that he had not because he assumed that there was nothing that could be done. There are so many examples of assumption and avoiding assumption is a daily opportunity for all of us! Assumptions are really limiting beliefs in disguise. Some definitions of the word assumption are as follows: something taken for granted; a supposition the act of taking to or upon oneself the act of taking possession of something arrogance; presumption the taking over of another’s debts or obligations When we make assumptions, we are usually using past experiences to make an “educated guess” about a given situation. We generally fall into the trap of making assumptions when we lack the courage to clarify the situation, or when we are being downright lazy. It often appears to be much easier to assume than it is to ask, therefore replacing the need to communicate. However, asking and clarifying are the anecdotes to assumption. How is assumption holding you back in your business or personal life? Are you assuming that something just can’t be done or making assumptions about others’ opinions or actions? Don’t be afraid to ask! Listen attentively Clarify by asking questions Come from a place of integrity and allow others to do the same Be open to...

Do I Have Your Word?

I remember as a child always being reminded to be a person of integrity, meaning that I should do what I said I would do and that I should complete the things that I started. What I didn’t realize is that these qualities would somehow differentiate those who are successful from the rest. I don’t mean to say that you can never quit anything, but it is hard to judge any experience or activity unless you give it sufficient time. Anyone who has ever bought a house or a new car has had the experience of being bombarded with page after page of disclosures, disclaimers, and terms of purchase. Some of the best business and legal advice of modern times is to “put it in writing”. So what ever happened to the value of your word and the concept of integrity? I am by no means suggesting that business should be conducted without contracts, but what I am suggesting is that we all live with integrity and that we regard the value of our word with the utmost importance. Be impeccable with your word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love. ~ don Miguel Ruiz While most of us are likely to keep our word when we have promised something to someone else, we frequently let ourselves down. Have you ever noticed that you have the same New Year’s resolutions year after year? Have you ever decided to change a thought or...

Spring Is In the Air!

The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, the grass is getting slightly greener, football season has ended, and the smell of spring is in the air! While we are well on our way to achieving our new year’s resolutions, the onset of spring gives us the sense of a new beginning, a fresh start. It is also a great time to get yourself and your surroundings ready to go by doing some spring cleaning! Did you know that holding on to clutter blocks the flow of energy, including the energy of money? Cleaning and organizing will prepare you mentally and physically, increasing your productivity, creating space for new experiences and re-activating flow of prosperity in your life. Here are some ideas to get you started: If you haven’t done so already, purge last year’s files and put them in a box labeled accordingly. Take the time to evaluate whether or not your current filing system has been working for you and make changes accordingly. Go through your closets and boxes and get rid of things that you have not used for 6 months or more (with the exception, of course, of important photos, documents/records that should be kept longer for tax purposes, and family heirlooms) Hire someone to come in and do a deep cleaning, including carpets and upholstery. Update your decor. Re-positioning your furniture, updating your accessories/pictures, or painting can give any room a fresh, new feel. Organize and re-stock supplies. You will save so much time and energy by having plenty of what you need on hand and in its place! Do you have...
