Set Yourself Up For Success in 2015!!!

Here we are once again, embarking on a new year that will be full of new opportunities, new relationships, new hopes, and new aspirations. The question to ponder is, “What makes this year different from the last?” There is always so much talk about new year’s resolutions and about finally being committed to reaching the goals that, for so long have been on our to-do lists. But I want to challenge you to adopt a new perspective. Goals represent those hopes, dreams, and aspirations that we long for. Most people I have talked to have a very clear picture in their minds about what they want and even how to get there, but they are not taking the action necessary to get there! The truth is that what truly holds most of us back lies in one of three areas: our identy, our beliefs, or our actions (or lack thereof). This is so easy to identify in others, but not so much in ourselves. Have you ever thought, “Wow, she deserves so much more than that!”, or “I’m can’t believe he puts up with that!” Our inner struggle with our identies and our beliefs are often invisible to us, but they are our biggest blocks to attaining our goals and they determine which actions we take and which ones we avoid. I want to challenge you to begin to notice what you are telling yourself about your identity and your beliefs. Are you identifying with being too young or too old? Are you too tall or too short? Are you of the wrong background? Do you believe that you...

Have You Found Your Pot of Gold?

Just the other day I was listening to Kim George speak on With Gratitude & Grace’s Mindful Monday show on BlogTalk Radio. She read her Freedom Memorandum, which spoke to my soul divinely and profoundly. It reminded me of one summer that I spent with my mom in California as a child. One day that summer, we were driving down a windy, hilly road through a beautiful mountain range. We were listening to music that seemed to be synchronized with each turn, and we were in awe of the constant displays of beauty that awaited around each bend. As we continued on our path, there was a brief rain, followed by the return of the sun and what seemed to be one of the most vibrant and amazing rainbows I have ever seen! I was instantly convinced that we were in the perfect spot to discover the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, as the end of the rainbow appeared to be just around the next bend! I waited in anticipation as we rounded the bend, expecting to see the beautiful treasure awaiting, but to no avail. “It must be around the next one,” I thought; however I was disappointed over and over again as we rounded each bend. Are you chasing that pot of gold in your life and feeling repeatedly disappointed as you come around each bend? I found my search for the pot of gold to be a perfect metaphor for life and also one of life’s great lessons: appreciate the beauty around you, but more importantly within you, and realize that you...

Will You Embrace the Shift?

Today is Monday again, one of my favorite days of the week. While every day is special, Mondays to me represent the chance for a fresh, new beginning and new opportunities. As an entrepreneur, I try to control for as many variables as possible, planning my days and weeks out meticulously. However, sometimes there are messages from the universe that I have no way of accounting for that can end up shifting my plans completely. I began noticing an incredible shift in December 2011 which seems to be accelerating more rapidly as the time passes. Last week ended up being completely different from I had expected and there were many incredible turns of events. As I reflect on these events, I realize that there is no way that I could have ever predicted what actually occurred, but through faith and preparation, I was ready for the changes and I can’t help but to see the huge blessings that are manifesting as a result. While I had accounted for and planned for some of the events that occurred last week, I did not plan for them to happen so quickly! Sometimes we are waiting for the right moment to take that leap of faith, but life has its own way of propelling you in the direction that you are meant to go. Have you noticed the shift this year? There is an incredible energy in the air of “out with the old, and in with the new”. For some, this is an exhilarating time of new beginnings and new experiences. For others, it is extremely frightening and anxiety provoking as...

What else are you voting for?

In my last post, I asked you to pay attention to what you are voting for with regards to the external things you support, such as television programs, stores, products, etc. Today I would like to talk about what you are voting for internally. In all my years of practice as a Social Worker, Therapist, and Coach, I have found that the most troubling issue for people is their mindset and internal dialogue. This one area of concern can manifest itself in both positive and negative manners, but many people do not recognize the pure power that a simple adjustment can make in their lives. For example, a person who comes to see me because they are suffering from depression can experience an immediate shift in their mood just by simply practicing the expression of gratitude on a daily basis. A person with anxiety can experience an equally impressive shift simply by learning how to control their thoughts by slowing them down and questioning the true validity of their thoughts. As we humans are creatures of habit, we usually think the same thoughts over and over again. If you are not a thought-conscious person, it is likely that the thoughts that you are having today are essentially the same thoughts you had yesterday, last month, and last year, with only slight variations. Getting a little more scientific, each thought that you have creates a neuro-pathway in your brain and they remain present in your subconscious mind. Think of your subconscious mind as your water supply. Would you want to have your water supply muddled with poisons and toxins or...

What Are You Voting For?

My last post had to do with gaining control over what you feed your mind and limiting negative information. By now, you are probably more aware of all of the information that bombards us on a daily basis, even when we don’t go out looking for it. However, let’s take this idea one step further. I saw a very interesting post on the No More Negative News fan page on Facebook. Someone asked whether or not people feel that the news reports negative information because that’s what they want to report, or if they report the negative news because that’s what the viewers want. I, of course, believe that it is the latter. In fact, I believe that every time you watch any television program, visit any internet website, read any periodical, read any book, or purchase any product (just for a few examples), you are voting for that program/website/periodical/book/product. If there were no viewers of the negative news, there would be no sense in them broadcasting it. If people don’t put their money and energy into something, it goes away. In contrast, what you put your money and energy into expands. So what are you expanding? Do you know who produces the products you purchase and what causes those companies support? Your money (energy) is supporting whatever you direct it to. Start paying attention this week to what you are voting for. Ask yourself if these things are in alignment with your values and beliefs. If they are not, decide not to support them and seek those that...

What Are You Feeding Your Mind?

Our nation is facing many health epidemics, including a rise in the number of people who suffer from obesity, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, to name a few. The culprit: poor diet, lack of exercise, and inability to understand the key ingredients to proper nutrition. I believe that our nation is also facing an information epidemic, causing an increase in the number of people who suffer from negative thoughts/beliefs, fear, low self-esteem, poor concentration, and lack of creativity, amongst other things. We are constantly bombarded with information, both on the conscious and subconscious levels. Just for one day, try to notice all of the headlines, commercials, news programs, radio shows, emails, online ads, magazines & newspapers, junk mail, etc. that you are exposed to. It is staggering how much information is out there and how much of it comes into your consciousness and pollutes your mind every day. What if you were to shut some of that information out? It probably isn’t possible to shut all of it out, unless maybe you live in an igloo in Antarctica, but there are some things you absolutely have control over. One great example is the news. Many people fret when I bring up the suggestion to quit watching the news and/or reading the newspaper. However, what I have found is that in the last couple of years since I stopped doing so, I have remained every bit as informed as the next person about what’s going on around the nation and around the world. Remember, there is a constant influx of information that you are exposed to every day. You will...
